"Show me one story of a crazed teen opening fire on classmates, and I'll show you twenty others where a kid jumped in without hesitation and put his or her life on the line to save someone else--often a total stranger."
--Deborah Morris, Author
Real Kids Real Adventures and the new Teens 911 series share a common theme--kids today are in a lot better shape than most headlines would lead us to believe.
With three dramatic true rescue/survival stories in each of the current eleven Real Kids Real Adventures volumes and five brand new Teens 911 stories coming out this fall, the two series--and the woman behind them--offer a wide range of material from which to draw. For instance:
- TEEN SURVIVORS--Fifteen-year-old friends Aaron, Justin, and Van of Spokane, Washington are enjoying a day on the slopes at Schweitzer Mountain Ski Resort in Idaho... but in the blowing snow and increasing winds, they take a wrong turn and end up hopelessly lost as a snowstorm sweeps across the mountain and a chill darkness falls. ("Snowbound", cover story of Teens 911: Snowbound. A "Would You Know How to Survive..." self-quiz appears at the end of each story, much like the best-selling Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook.)
- REAL-LIFE ACTION HERO--Jodi Itri, a thirteen-year-old in Fredericksburg, Texas, is a cop's daughter who's actually helped in a couple emergencies... but when her dad's experimental helicopter crashes in a field while her mom is videotaping him, the only way to rescue him is for her to crawl inches under the whirling steel blades. ("Helicopter Crash", from Teens 911: Snowbound. Video footage available.)
- THE GOOD NEWS ABOUT TODAY'S TEENS--With all the news coverage about violent teens, an important story is being left untold. Author Deborah Morris shares incredible (but true!) stories of kids and teens who have performed daring rescues few adults would have attempted. (10-minute demo tape available as download.)
ATTENTION TV PRODUCERS: Deborah has been a source of stories for Oprah, Maury Povich, Montel Williams, Home Life, and syndicated specials like America's Heroes. She can bring some of her "Real Kids" and heroic teens with her and provide exciting film clips from the Emmy-nominated TV series based on her Real Kids Real Adventures books.
